CUT TO SIZE AND INSTALLATION OF READY MADE BLINDS
You have decided to save a bit of money and buy your ready made blinds from the local store. I can cut down blinds from Spotlight, Bunnings, Super A Mart, Freedom etc. Please note not all blinds can be cut down. You will often be given limited information about what to do when your blinds don't fit. Yes you can save a bit on these products but at a cost. I can cut most ready made products to size for you either in your home if you also want them fitted or simply drop them in and pick them up later. Venetian blinds can only be cut down to the controls also allowing for the brackets. As an example based on Spotlight blinds the fauxwood blinds would have a maximum of 60mm each side and the timber ones around 100mm each side. I operate the cutting to size under a heading of Rod's Trim and Fit. I am based on the Gold Coast, and attend to Blind Installations, repairs, and cut downs as these are much sought after and this service is accessible under the same number. Please note that I will not travel to Brisbane but you are welcome to bring them to me.
Please note that I cannot cut down custom made timber venetians as the controls are generally right at the ends.
TIPS
With regard to timber venetians, the main difference between custom made and ready made is the strength of the controls and the fact that on custom made blinds you can decide where you want the controls to be. On a ready made blind the controls are where the overseas manufacturer has them defaulting to which is usually right hand side for raise and lower cords and a wand or cords on the left for tilt function. There are also many options with regard to slat material, thickness and colour for custom made blinds whereas there are really only a few options on store bought blinds.
As for roller blinds, many of the blinds these days are similar, so you may find an opportunity to buy a bargain. Just remember that some blinds have cardboard tubes which have no strength. These are often coupled with cheap small plastic brackets and they will often get stuck or lose the ability to hold the blind up. As an additional mention if you have concrete walls that need plugs to fit, the smaller brackets give you no room to move and often create problems.
Panel glides are available in some stores and will need to be put together. Yes you will save quite a bit but once again the tracking is often nowhere near as good and sometimes wont allow you to alter the direction of the stacking. They can be a real nightmare to put together.
Please note - We do not offer a service to cut aluminium venetian blinds or roman blinds . If you absolutely want the aluminium blind cut it will have a square finish with no rounded corners. If you want a round finish and have patience you can buy a small tool to do it yourself from the stores.
BLIND REPAIR SERVICE
We offer a service to repair blinds (where possible) which might mean on a venetian blind; a replacement tilter, or cord, and if you have spare blades from the blind you bought they can be changed around as well when slats break and in many cases I can source the replacement slats to match. Please remember that sunlight over time will change the colour so a new slat could look totally different so its often cheaper for you to wait for the specials at the stores and cut the whole new blind which I can then make fit if it wont from the box.
If you have a roller blind you might need a new winder in time because on the ready made blinds they generally are not as strong. Just bear in mind that the tube sizes can vary in the ready made blinds and the parts are possibly not available to suit them.
I have found that vertical blind tracks are usually bent or broken. In these cases it is better just to do a new track rather than replace one part only to find that the rest is on the way out as well.
Awnings can have fabric replaced if all else is still good, or indeed any other parts, however if too much is needed....might as well have a look at new awnings, and there are better ideas today than back then.
